From Mecca to America

Joe Mack Wilson Building | Fine Arts Gallery
May 26 - July 30, 2017

Visual arts content bridges cultures. This exhibition features one such cultural bridge that stemmed from collaborations between Dr. Mona Mohamed Ibrahim Hussein (Former Professor, Art Education, Umm Al Qura University-Saudi Arabia through the University of Alexandria-Egypt) and Dr. Sandra Bird (Professor, Art Education, Kennesaw State University).

For the collaboration, Dr. Hussein brought her local, technical, and academic knowledge of Islamic metalwork to the metro-Atlanta art curriculum through Dr. Bird’s art education course “Intercultural Curriculum Models” (ARED 4410). The course was a service learning practicum that is offered through Kennesaw State University's School of Art and Design, and the curriculum project served the art education pre-service teachers, as well as those they taught. In this instance, the students were other KSU student, staff, and faculty members. The resulting exhibition will present a collection of the art products from the participants in this project.

The art teaching community is also invited to Dr. Hussein’s multi-media workshop on June 10th where she will discuss the content techniques used in the exhibition's art works. Register.

This project and exhibition is sponsored by a Kennesaw State University Division of Global Affairs Strategic Internationalization Grant.
