RiTES features four Black male artists whose works are commentary on how one becomes a man, and more specifically, a Black man. The show challenges the concept of ideal manhood by exploring the dynamic ways manhood is interpreted, imposed, and performed.
"RITES offers a rare opportunity to glimpse the heart and soul of men too often rendered invisible. Each of the artists in this exhibit provides a unique perspective on the theme and, as a result, contributes to the overall assertion that whether formal or informal, a rite of passage reveals that each individual journey, each individual understanding, and each individual performance of manhood is unique." - Fahamu Pecou
